Workington & District Amateur Musical Society 1

Welcome to WADAMS…

WADAMS was formed in 1952 in order to “promote, improve, develop and maintain public appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation and public performance of Musical Works and Concerts”.

The inaugural meeting of the Society was held in the Trades Hall, Brow Top, Workington, on Monday 28th April 1952 at 7.30pm. The meeting was called by Ronald E Hunt Esq., by public notice and invitation to attend a meeting to consider the formation of a Workington and West Cumberland Amateur Musical Society. At that meeting the name was changed to Workington & District Amateur Musical Society, or WADAMS as we have affectionately become known.

The Society, a member of NODA, is made up of 3 sections; WADAMS Tots, WADAMS Next Generation and our adult section. WADAMS produce and perform concerts, musicals and pantomimes, in The Carnegie Theatre and Theatre Royal, Workington. They put on five productions a year; an adult spring show, a youth production, a tots christmas and summer show and a Christmas pantomime. Recent shows have been Sister Act, Fame, 9to5, High School Musical, Legally Blonde, Annie, Rock of Ages, Footloose and Bugsy Malone.
